How to publish a webpage from Netscape Composer

Note:

The technique described here will work on most webpage editing programs, and is not really specific to Netscape Composer.

Unfortunately, the publish command in Netscape Composer is not going to work for the BBS website hosting service. Following is a step-by-step list of what you need to do to get a webpage from your computer to our server:

  1. Save your webpage to a file. Go to Composer's "File" menu and pick the option "Save As..." . Name the file "index.html" and put it in a directory that you'll be able to find easily later.
  2. From your web browser (Netscape Navigator?) go to http://www.writersbbs.com/editor/ .
  3. Login with your name and password.
  4. After logging in, you will see the page titled "Writer's BBS Website Editor." Under the button "upload_files:" there will be a series of buttons labeled "Browse...". Click the first one.
  5. You should now be looking at a "File Upload" dialog. Use this dialog to find your "index.html" file that you saved from Composer. Once you have found and selected the file, click on the "Open" button.
  6. You should now be back at the "Writer's BBS Website Editor" page. There should be an entry in the box to the left of the "Browse..." button that you clicked on before that shows the location of the "index.html" file.
  7. Click the "upload_files:" button. You should be taken to a new page that says: "Received file: index.html". Click the "Return to the menu" button on this page.
  8. You'll be back at the "...website editor" page. Near the bottom of the screen, under the heading "Hints:", there is a line that reads: "If you have already created your website, you can view it at: http://writersbbs.com/members/..." . Click on the link to view your website.
  9. If you have several pages to upload, you can repeat these steps for each page, though you'll need to use a different file name in steps 1 and 5.
